Edinbuzz is an informal project that aims to help people use technology and the web to make Edinburgh (and beyond?) better. It is non-party politicial, and run entirely by volunteers.
We have plans to announce a new programme of regular social media surgeries very soon. So watch this space.
And in a recent parallel development, there is also an emerging bunch of local folk interested in exploring the scope for developing an independent home for open data about the city and beyond. This site, may, or may not, yet become a home for that too.
History
The Edinbuzz project was first established by Ally Tibbitt, who helped to get funding from the City of Edinburgh Council to run the first ever programme of Social Media Surgeries in Scotland. The idea wasn’t new – Nick Booth has been running them for ages.
After enlisting the help of Tom Allan and a whole load of very skilled volunteer ‘surgeons’ the social media surgeries took place in libraries all over the city and helped more than 5o local charities and community groups to learn more about social media and the web for free. That all happened quite a while ago.
Since then a load of folk, many of whom took part in the first session of social media surgeries, have been itching to get a new lot of surgeries off the ground. And so this is where we’re at.
